Armen Hakobyan

Armen Hakobyan ist seit der Spielzeit 2024/2025 zusammen mit Marek Tůma Intendant des Aalto Ballett Essen. Seit der Spielzeit 2018/2019 war er als Ballettmeister beim Aalto Ballett Essen tätig. Er erhielt in Jerewan den ersten Ballettunterricht und setzte seine Ausbildung an der Bulgarischen Ballettschule in Sofia fort. Auf ein erstes Engagement als Solist beim Ballett der Staatsoper Sofia folgte 2000 eine Verpflichtung ans Theater Altenburg-Gera als Solist, wo er in Balletten von Uwe Scholz, Nils Christie, Ton Wiggers und Birgit Scherzer mitwirkte. 2003 holte ihn Youri Vámos an die Deutsche Oper am Rhein und besetzte ihn in zahlreichen seiner Ballette als Solist. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er mit Choreografen wie Mats Ek, John Neumeier, Hans van Manen sowie Petr Zuska und war als Trainingsleiter in Bulgarien, Korea und Deutschland tätig. Seit 2010/2011 gehörte er als Solotänzer zum Aalto Ballett Essen. Im Jahr 2016 assistierte er Jiří Kylián im Rahmen der Produktion „Archipel“. In der Saison 2010/2011 stellte er sich mit „Nuvole bianche“ („PTAH II“) und mit „Embodiment“ („PTAH III“) als Choreograf vor und setzte seine Arbeit mit „Frequencies“ im Rahmen von „Vibrations“ fort. In der Spielzeit 2017/2018 zeichnete er gemeinsam mit Denis Untila für die Choreografie von „Moving Colours“ verantwortlich. Seine Choreografie „Many a moon“ wurde im Rahmen von „Noverre: Junge Choreografen 2019“ mit dem Stuttgarter Ballett aufgeführt.

Armen Hakobyan is since season 2024/2025 together with Marek Tůma intendant of the Aalto Ballett Essen. Before that he was since the 2018/2019 season ballet master at Aalto Ballett Essen. He received his first ballet lessons in Yerevan and continued his training at the Bulgarian Ballet School in Sofia. His first engagement as a soloist with the Sofia State Opera Ballet was followed in 2000 by an engagement at the Theater Altenburg-Gera as a soloist, where he performed in ballets by Uwe Scholz, Nils Christie, Ton Wiggers and Birgit Scherzer. In 2003 Youri Vámos brought him to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and selected him as soloist in many of his ballets. He has also worked with choreographers such as Mats Ek, John Neumeier, Hans van Manen as well as Petr Zuska and has been a training director in Bulgaria, Korea and Germany. Since 2010/2011 he was part of the Aalto Ballet Essen as a solo dancer. In 2016 he assisted Jiří Kylián in the production "Archipel". In the 2010/2011 season he introduced himself as a choreographer with "Nuvole bianche" ("PTAH II") and with "Embodiment" ("PTAH III") and continued his work with "Frequencies" as part of "Vibrations". In the 2017/2018 season he was responsible for the choreography of "Moving Colours" together with Denis Untila. His choreography "Many a moon" was performed as part of "Noverre: Young Choreographers 2019" with the Stuttgart Ballet.
